As a holiday resort Newquay relies on it's beaches, which face every direction, other than east, to attract the visitors. as they face all directions it is easy to find a sheltered sport on Newquay's beaches in almost all weathers. These sandy beaches with their reputation for good surf are the main reason for Newquay's lasting popularity.

With the coming of the railway in 1875, although built to carry minerals & clay to the harbour, the town was brought within reach of the Victorian travellers at a time when seaside holidays were becoming popular. Large hotels were built on the high cliffs above the beaches giving spectacular views for visitors.

Newquay today acts as Mecca for the surfing fraternity, hosting international championships. It is full of nightlife and has a variety of accommodation ranging from backpacking hostels to top class hotels.

There is a zoo, swimming pools, sealife centre, boating lake, and lots of other attractions to suit all tastes.
